Smoke Bitten: Kick-Butt Female Does It Again

4/5

Have you liked the last 11 Mercy Thompson books? Then you’re going to enjoy this one as well! Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs was exactly what you want in a Mercy Thompson book.  It follows the same story equation as the other 11 books which might make it feel like you’re reading the same thing again but it’s got great writing and solid characters that will keep you turning the pages.

The Gist

A new ugly has come into town and Mercy is in the middle of it. With a door to Underhill right in her backyard, a mysterious rabbit/shape-shifting animal biting and taking control of people, new wolves in the area, and a witchy curse on her husband, Mercy has her hands full.

 Kick-Butt Adventure Awaits

Our kick-butt heroine is back! And I really enjoyed her most recent adventure. It was such a fun, fast-paced read. There wasn’t a lot going on with plot depth and this book was definitely more of a bridge to the next one than its own stand-alone book but a little escapism never hurt anyone. I also didn’t love the villain in this book. You figure it out too quickly and I was definitely let down by the big reveal, but the writing is strong and you stay invested in the path of the story.

You know a book is good when you wish it had been longer, when you wish you could spend more time with the characters. And that’s exactly how I felt when I finished this book – I wasn’t ready for it to be done at all. So can Book 13 come out already?

Ok, this series was steamy with a capital “S” but it was also just a really solid vampire tale. If you don’t mind a bit of blood and guts thrown around and can get down with some vampires, then this book is 100% for you.
