Feyble’s Book Club Pick of the Month: Woven by Moonlight

4.5/5

Woven by Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez is such a fun, adventure-filled read. With romance, rebellion, and betrayal, this book has it all to make it great. If you’re looking for your next book club pick, look no further than this one. It gives you every chance to learn about Bolivian culture and will definitely inspire your book club snacks! If I read anything more about salteñas, I might drool all over myself.

The Gist

Ximena Rojas has grown up a fake. As the real condesa’s decoy, her life is designed to protect her Illustrian kingdom by protecting her sovereign, Catalina. When the worst has come and their rebellion feels like an imminent failure, Ximena has the chance to infiltrate the Llascan palace to find an infamous weapon, la Estrella. Once there, Ximena finds more than she was bargaining for and her whole life outlook is about to change.

Feyble’s Book Club Pick of the Month

Woven by Moonlight had a fantastic story with great characters and lyrical writing. The book was fun to read and so different from anything else out there right now that it’s worth a conversation. As magic powers come into play and battles are fought, you’ll have plenty of topics to discuss with your book club!

Dive Into a New Culture

I think the best part of reading is diving into a new culture and learning their phrases, history, and stories. Especially if you’re reading the book for book club. Reading about different cultures just makes your conversation that much more exciting!

I haven’t gotten to experience a lot of Bolivian culture, but by reading this book I got to experience a slice of it. I speak Spanish so seeing some Spanish phrases in the book was a nice touch. If I didn’t know about something or wasn’t familiar with the folklore, I did some research and was able to get even more into this book. And reading about all the delicious food just made me hungry! Every time Ibañez mentioned papas fritas or choclo, my stomach immediately started grumbling. Great idea for book club? Use the references to food as inspiration for book club snacks!

Illustrians and Llascans for the Win

Whether you pull for the Illustrians or the Llascans, this book will have you thinking about what it means to be conqueror and how far you’ll go to protect your people. Fall in love with El Lobo and don’t forget to pray to Luna!
