The Most Anticipated Books of Fall 2020

Well, summer is quickly coming to a close and fall is almost upon us. I know it doesn’t feel like that in Texas (it was 106 degrees last week…) but the calendar tells me September is coming. So get ready for pumpkin spice lattes, cornucopias, and women in their fall uniform – knee high boots and the quintessential vest.

But Fall is my favorite season and it’s not just because football is back on prime time. In fact, September is one of the BEST months for new book releases. Maybe because it’s the start of a new school year or because people want to stay indoors more with the cooler weather. Whatever the reason, Fall gets the most exciting book releases. Check out the list below and Feyble’s book release calendar for the book highlights of the season.

Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin – September 1

The anticipated sequel to Serpent & Dove, Shelby Mahurin continues the story of Lou, Reid, Coco, and Ansel. On the run from the coven, Lou’s desperation will lead her to darker and darker magic. Deadly witches and steamy romance is exactly what readers should expect from this sequel.

A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout – September 1

The anticipated sequel to Jennifer L. Armentrout’s From Blood and Ash. Poppy has been betrayed by everyone she thought she was supposed to trust, including the man she was falling in love with. But now she has to make a choice – use Casteel to find her brother and see if the Ascended are really soulless or give into temptation and fall for Casteel even more than she already has.

Fable by Adrienne Young – September 1

Adrienne Young impressed readers with Sky in the Deep and Fable will be no different. The first book in a new duology, Fable follows a young girl trying to survive in a dangerous world of pirates and treacherous storms.

Majesty by Katharine McGee – September 1

The second book in the American Royals series, Katharine McGee takes us on an imagining of the United States with royalty. In Majesty, we’ll find out if America is ready for its first queen. If you loved Red, White, and Royal Blue or Crazy Rich Asians, this is the book for you!

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman – September 8

From the bestselling author of A Man Called Ove comes another novel about a hostage situation that takes a charming turn the attempted robber didn’t expect. When a failed bank robber crashes an open house and takes a group of strangers hostage, the situation will cause each person or couple to reflect on their grievances, hurts, and secrets.

Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson – September 15

Enchanted Jones met Korey Fields and instantly knew he’d be the one to make her a famous singer. When she wakes up with blood on her hands and Korey Fields’ dead body, all signs will point to her as the culprit. A look into rape culture and the vulnerability of young black girls, this is an essential read that will keep you on your toes from beginning to end.

The Book of Two Ways by Jodi Picoult – September 22

Dawn Edelstein has a nice life – a husband, Brian, their daughter, and a career as a death doula. But when she herself faces death by plane crash, Dawn’s mind doesn’t go to her nice life. It goes to Wyatt Armstrong – a man she last saw 15 years ago. When Dawn survives the crash, she must decide whether to go back to her normal life or to find Wyatt in Egypt. Jodi Picoult always puts out the best and I don’t think this one will be any different.

Just Like You by Nick Hornby – September 29

The person that’s right for you isn’t always who we think it’ll be. At forty-one, Lucy did not expect to be getting a divorce. With two school-aged children at home and her job as a schoolteacher, her life is no longer following the picture-perfect script. But when she meets twenty-two year old Joseph, she might just be able to find happiness with the person she least expected.

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik – September 29

From the author of Uprooted and Spinning Silver comes another fantasy series about an unwilling dark sorceress who just needs to survive Scholomance without slaughtering thousands to do it. Maybe the evil witch in the story isn’t actually the evil witch we expert her to be.

Skyhunter by Marie Lu

Talin Kanami’s home was devastated by the Karensa Federation. After seeking asylum in Mara, a country that generally finds her people repulsive, the Federation is moving to attack Mara. An elite group of soldiers will be all the planet has to save them all.

Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson – November 17

Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive continues with the eagerly awaited fourth book. The battle continues and when new technological discoveries are made by Navani Kholin’s scholars, an arm race will start that will challenge the core of the Radiant ideals. And now the honorspren won’t bond with humans and Adolin and Shallan must convince the honorspren stronghold to continue to join the cause.
